Carole Hanna McCann died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, September 17; she had struggled with cancer for several months. She is survived by her brother, Father Jack Hanna, C.S.B. of St. Thomas High School and several cousins. Carole graduated from Incarnate Word Academy and the University of St. Thomas. She was named the UST outstanding alumna of the year in 2009. Carole was an extraordinary teacher of Musical theater and Dance in Houston and was able to share her talents all over the world.
Memorial Mass will be held at 7:00 pm, Thursday, September 22, 2011 at St. Thomas High School, 4500 Memorial Drive, Houston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Incarnate Word Academy, 609 Crawford, Houston, TX 77002.

To all the friends my dear sister, Carole Hanna McCann, the beloved "Miss Carole"
I have to give you all some very sad news. Carole was diagnosed with cervical cancer in February of this year (2011). She underwent treatment and therapy, but Carole was quite run-down and the cancer was advanced. Her oncologist finally told us that, in spite of all efforts, the cancer had spread and that further treatment would be of no avail. She recommended that Carole go into home-hospice care. Carole's physician told me that her mission would be to make my sister as comfortable as possible. It seems that Carole's life will be measured in a matter of weeks or days.
Carole already had a wonderful care-giver who has been with her for several months already; she remains on duty. Carole's cousin from Dallas has been a wonderful help; she and I have now arranged for around the clock care. Carole remains at home and is medicated for pain; currently she is not in much discomfort. Home hospice has arranged for a hospital bed for Carole and a hospice RN visits her frequently. Carole sleeps most of the time and is unable to see any visitors or talk on the phone.

I thank you for being a part of my sister's life. It is important that we keep in mind the words of Jesus from John's gospel:
"I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, even though they die, they will come to life."
